Dear WSTA members and other water specialists, it gives me great pleasure to convey to you the regards of all WSTA Board members. With the opening of WSTA newly developed website, as one of our ambitious developments on better communication with you, we need your suggestions and views in our activities and other things related to water in the GCC countries.
The GCC region is one of the poorest regions in natural water resources, which led the decision makers, with the discovery of oil several decades ago, to utilize the seawater as a source for fresh water through desalination. The ever increasing demand for water especially for the rapid and unplanned agricultural development, resulted in both quality and quantity deterioration of ground water. Additionally the underutilized treated wastewater, all exerted more pressures on the already limited water resources.
Enhancing the management practices of water resources is the key for the current situation. Demand and economically based management is the solution, through science-based conservation and sustainable development. Our role as water scientists and specialists is vital at this stage, to provide efficient and up-to-date professionalism in our duties to inspire decision maker, private sector and layman towards initiating, developing and supporting new horizon of water management in the GCC countries.
